The Ball of Light is a symbol created by Hugo Txxxo in his own artwork, which I have adopted to depict Jenny Richter and her special relationship to him. The Ball of Light was created in my artwork by Passion who was hoping to distract the Puppet-Master while the Devil gave the Emperor the Blue Heart. The Ball of Light has since been assimilated into the Puppet-Masters chest and glows in a manner based on the Emperors heart and provides him with goodness that he lacked before.
An act which is depicted to show a sexual threshold being crossed. As belt buckles are often the bearers of initials or signifiers for given characters - the actual act of undoing the belt buckles draws added attention to the participants in the act.
The title of a song by the Wedding Present, which had particular appeal due to the arcane attributes that are given to emotions in my artwork.
The Birdman is a symbolic demon that lurks around the fringes of the scene. He represents change for changes sake and tries to disrupt forward progress and prosperity. The Birdman's roots are very strongly in the Changer of Ways, a character from Games Workshop's Realm of Chaos, which I was influenced by early on. He sometimes appears as a statue or coming out of a bottle label or book.
Bite marks on people is used as a sign of a passionate sexual act. Sort of an exaggerated hicky. Bite marks were recently used when Passion who posses the Red Heart took a few bites out of it as a sign of her indifference towards the value of it and the implied feelings of the Emperor.
Bleeding from the mouth has a couple of different meanings differentiated by the cause. It may be a result of biting someone else which is a sign of a violent or passionate sexual act. Blood around the mouth may also be caused by bleeding from teeth falling out to being removed which is a sign of anxiety and sacrifice.
The Blue Heart is a symbol that evolved from the Red Heart (which is an emblem of the Emperor's lost love). The Blue Heart was invented by the Devil to distract the Emperor by filing the vacuum in his chest with something - even though it is a false something. On the crown of the Blue Heart is the word "Ex" which is a play on words. "Ex" roughly means "in the" as in the saying "Rex ex machina" and so the heart goes in the Emperor (the "Rex"). Also the Blue Heart is a product of the Devil who is an "Ex" of mine. The Blue Heart is currently residing in the Emperor's chest and is often shown flaring out of it in pentagrams of blue fire.
Books are generically a sign of knowledge and the arcane. When the title is specified it acts as a signifier of something about the reader. Books are also used as platforms for vignettes into other stories especially stories that are set in the past or in other genres such as Greek mythology.
Bottles are often drawn simply as a sign of the revelry and hedonistic lifestyle throughout my art. Different bottles are meant to have different associations with them and thus with the people drinking from them. Clear glass wine bottles (the kind Boones Farm is supplied in) is the most common bottle drawn and reflects good taste. Beer bottles and in particular 40 oz. Beer bottles are meant to show a lack of standards, bad taste or thugishness. Lowest of all would be the distinctive rectangular bottle of Maddog 20/20, when drinking this someone has clearly lost all sense. Bottles are also used to convey humor or information on their labels. Usually there is a reference to the person drinking or the scene as a whole. Bottles also operate as a bridge between the world depicted in the drawings and the real world as I have made several pieces involving real bottles (usually beer) with a drawn label.
