Dabbel

Dabbel is a character initially created in CW2. She was the leader of a gang called the Helix and sister to William and Squeak. She was a bad girl from a good family and eventually became involved in diabolic arts. Dabble is shown with horns but no tail to show that tough she has a dark side she is not completely transformed. She also bears the mark of Tzeench, a demon from the Warhammer Fantasy world, and is often shown with the Birdman who has a similar origin.

Dean

Dean is based on Octavian from the story of Julius Caesar, which heavily influenced the story of Prang and the ascension of the Emperor to his current role. He was a petty mage who was ultimately betrayed by his own greed and his supposed allies on the Second Triumvirate.

Death

Death was developed when working on my Tarot deck. Though not a theme that I deal with often it is useful to have him around to dispatch estranged characters like the Second High Priestess and an Angel. Death's appearance was inspired by motifs used by the band the Misfits. He is stoic, focused and usually only in a scene to do a job at someone else request (often via a Tarot card).

Demeter

Demeter is a Greek nature goddess who is mother of Persephone. She has been featured in my telling of the story of Hades and Persephone where she tries to separate the two lovers rather than loose her daughter. Demeter wears a green dress and laurels in her hair as a sign of her connection to nature as does EC whom she was based.

Destroy

Destroy is a mantra that is meant to reflect anger and frustration though not so much actual physical violence.

Devil

The Devil is a use of traditional Catholic iconography in my art. She represents evil, pain and hardship. She is though, largely misunderstood as she is in fact more interested in the process of evil rather than the act itself. The Devil developed the Blue Heart for the Emperor not to hurt him but rather because it was an evil act itself. The Devil was based on Jenny Cxxxxm at a point in my life when I felt that she had abandoned me is a particularly hurtful way and the Devils deeds mellowed when Jenny and I reconciled. The Devil still appears frequently because of her iconographic strength and because of the special appreciation I have for Jenny in real life.

Devil-Angel Doll

The Devil-Angel Doll was created when the Emperor was trying to reconcile the nostalgia of an Angel with the odd apathy brought on by the Devils Blue Heart. Though touched and basically content, the Emperor was let down by the Doll as she fell apart. This paralleled my own real life experience when Erica Fxxxm became an ephemeral beacon of hope and a distraction from normal malaise.

Diana

Diana is a character in CW2 who has been updated to the main art narrative as an Amazonian warrior. Her primary role is that of Loreli's love interest and friend to Lucinda.

Die Boy

Die Boy is a character from CW2 that was updated into a sadistic warrior in the main narrative. He is supposed to be anti-social yet admired by the crowd. He is often shown with a pair of scissors and he wears armor that is more elaborate than the common armor to show his violent nature.

Dominus

Dominus is a hedonistic mage that assumed power with the stoic courtier Prang and the epicurean warrior Magnus. Dominus's sister Louisa was romantically involved with Magnus, which lead to a collapse in trust between the two. This breakdown was what allowed Prang to get the upper hand in the following civil war in which Dominus was killed.

Doppelganger

The character named Doppelganger was originally created in CW2 and was incorporated into the current universe. He was plucked from courtier obscurity by the Smoking Guy to imitate the Emperor while the Devil placed the Blue Heart in the real Emperor. Doppelganger obliged and dyed his hair red (too red), tattooed a teardrop under his eye (like the Emperors real tears) and a flaming spade on his chest (like the flaming heart in the Emperor's). Doppelganger remains in the Emperor's place while he wrestles with his nostalgia and tries to move on to the next episode in his life.

Double Scar on Back

The double scar on the back is a symbol developed by Hugo Trejo that I adopted. It was a sign of having ones wings cut off.

Dragon

The Dragon was created when working on an interpretation of the Story of St. George. He is an intellectual and a humanist. He only wants to eat Cleodalinda because that is what dragons do. When confronted by St. George he tries to rationalize with him and convince the knight that the woman he is rescuing is more trouble than she is worth. This doesn't work and the dragon is killed. As the story takes place in a world outside of the main continuum, it is usually shown only in books or on the labels of bottles.

Drinking

Drinking in my artwork is used to establish a mood of revelry and show a lifestyle of pleasure. Though there are certainly consequences to drinking like nausea and foolish acts, these situations are the type of story that I most enjoy telling. They add an absurd element to normal situations and heighten the drama of the mundane. There is also an art to drinking with its own vocabulary and traditions that I find interesting. From the particular types of glasses to be used with drinks to the exotic recipes used for cocktails. In my own experiences I have been drawn to the low end of this culture and I tend to focus on sort of sophomoric aspects like drinking straight from bottles and twist-off caps. I have used drinks in several real object pieces from small cocktails to repackaged liquors.
