The letter M when used in
conjunction with a letter means minus which is used to refer to the
difference in age between me and another person.
Magnus was an absolute champion,
beloved courtier and ideal man in a period before the Emperor took power.
Magnus came to share power with the hedonistic mage Dominus and the stoic
courtier Prang. Magnus began a passionate romance with Dominus's sister,
which bore two children - Loreli and Trevor. As the sons matured, they
joined with a group of courtiers who enjoyed Magnus's leadership and stood
together in a civil war initialed by Prang and his puritanical ways. The
group was exiled to a foreign land where agents of Prang assasinated
Magnus. Prang's physical appearance was based on Jashugan from Battle Angel Alita. He wears the standard warrior armor and
has black face paint (as do his sons).
Make-up is used in drawings for a
couple of reasons. One is for generic aesthetic purposes, trying to have
people be as beautiful as possible. Another reason, and this applies to
more radical applications, is to help differentiate reoccurring characters
and to show affiliations amongst characters. Some examples of this are the
Emperor's Sons and Daughter or Loreli and his brother Trevor. The
influences for the make-up itself include Japanese comics, Kabuki Theater,
the movie Bladerunner and 70's glam rock.
A mantra is a word that is supposed
to contain mystical capabilities. In my art, I often use a set of repeated
words, which are usually isolated from the rest of the imagery. The words
are meant to add another level of commentary to the feelings and
situations that lead me to do the drawing in the first place.
Mediocrity is new character that is trying to hold back the new Angel. His slug-like body reveals his contemptible nature.
Morality is a character that was
based on Jed Gxxxxr and replaced the other character based on him, the
mage Grey. Morality represents the conscience and an adherence to
arbitrary rules of conduct. He seeks to influence characters to morality
at the cost of logic and emotion. The character is opposed to and often
shown with Logic and Hate, as the people they were based on were all
roommates of mine along with Jed. In the storyline, some of Morality's
accomplishments include being preachy and judgmental, being taken prisoner
by Love and trying to protect an Angel from the Emperor's Son. Morality is
shown wearing a red robe due to his inspiration's own neutrality and he is
often depicted holding a book as a sign of rules with the permanence of
the written word.
Mother was the tongue-in-cheek
title given to a large etching that I did. It was dubbed such because of
the massive size of the plate and the catchy Danzig song by the same name.
