| Passion |
|
Passion is an allegorical character
that represents the ardor and obsession that I have had such trouble
achieving balance with in my life. She is depicted in
a tight red robe that covers the top half of her face that was
meant to hide her identity, as I did not know passion in life I didn't want
to acknowledge the character being based on anyone in particular. If fact
she was based on Alice Txxxxxa and the many years of admiration that I had
invested in her. Passion has long been the possessor of the Red Hear
which was ripped from the chest of the Emperor. She has refused to return
it even though she does not want it herself. She has also refused to take
the ring of the Emperor as a sign of her disinterest. Passion participated
in the conspiracy to give the Emperor the Blue Heart by distracting the
Puppet-Master by giving him the Ball of Light. Passion still has the Red
Heart with no sign of handing it off to any other characters in the near
future. |
| Patrick |
|
Patrick was a character from CW2
who has been updated in the current narrative as a virtuous mage. He was
among the courtiers that killed Prang and had a strong friendship with
Christopher before he became the Emperor. Patrick is an innocent character
who in the past has struggled with romance (as evidenced by a fruitless
crush on Lucinda) and vice (as evidenced by his taking pills). Recently he
has become romantically involved with the Emperor's Daughter with whom he
makes an ideal young innocent couple. Patrick wears white robes to reflect
his innocence with a high collar that shows his moral restraint. |

| Persephone |
|
Persephone is a Greek goddess of
the Spring and daughter of Demeter. In my art, the story of Hades and
Persephone has been explored in some detail. This was started when I was
working at Gallery 37 under the guidance of Julian Cox and Nyame Brown. It
was also the summer I met Alicja Txxxxa who inspired Persephone.
Persephone is depicted as demur, distant and somewhat vain. She is
continually being tugged between her love of Hades and her obligations to
her boorish mother. As Persephone exists in another universe apart from
the main continuum she usually appears in drawings in a book or on the
label of a bottle. |
| Perspicacious |
|
Perspicacious is a brutish giant
that helped Prang defeat Magnus and his followers and send them into
exile. He was later poisoned by Prang who feared that her would turn on
him next. |
| Playing
Cards |
Playing cards are used in my work
for a few reasons. First they fit into a certain rockabilly aesthetic that
appeals to me. Second, they facilitate an entertaining activity that I
depict to show the vice of gambling (particularly with clothes on the
line). The suits of playing cards have also come into play with the
Emperor's troubles keeping his heart around. With the hearts suit becoming
associated with the Red Heart and the spades suit becoming associated with
the Blue Heart and Doppelganger.

| Prang |
|
Prang was a character from CW2 that
was adapted to the current art narrative as a stoic villain that shared
power in the first triumvirate with Magnus and Dominus. Prang was a
courtier with a puritanical mindset who wanted to see what he perceived as
he world's vices eliminated. To this end he betrayed his partners in the
triumvirate and exiled his enemies after getting the upper hand in a civil
war. During this period, he was aided by the Emperor's Advisor and the
Smoking Guy. Prang arranged for his arch rival Magnus to be assassinated
in a foreign land. Once he was dead, Prang invited the rest of the exiled
court to return (with the exception of Loreli) which they did. Soon the
returned courtiers grew restless under Prang's oppressive rule and
conspired to kill him, which they did in a story adapted from Julius
Caesar. Prang's death brought another period of turmoil and the creation
of the Second Triumvirate. Prang wears a crimson shirt in the same manner
as the Emperor. His appearance was influenced by the M |

| Puppet-Master |
|
The Puppet-Master is an allegorical
character based on Hugo Txxxxo. The character emerged from Hugo's interest
in puppetry and his habit of guiding the lives of his friends to match his
own vision and will. The Puppet-Master is an arcane force that drives the
universe and dictates the actions of characters. He is most often depicted tugging on effigies of the
Emperor and Passion or some other object of desire. The Puppet-Master was
target of those that conspired to give the Emperor the Blue Heart because
of a fear that he might interfere and spoil their plans. To do this,
Passion created the Ball of Light which represents a goodness that is
lacking from the Puppet-Master's heart and is a metaphor for the
relationship between Hugo and Jenny Richter. The Puppet-Master wears black
armor as a sign of his general maliciousness. |
| Puppets |
Puppets are used as a symbol of
people's lack of control over the emotions and events in their life.
Puppets are generally used by the Puppet-Master to direct characters
depicted elsewhere in a drawing.
